What is the happiness spiral?
The Glücksspirale is one of the best-known pension lotteries in Germany. It was introduced in 1969, at the time as an additional lottery on every Toto ticket, and was intended to help finance the 1972 Olympic Games. Although it failed to raise enough money, the concept proved successful and was used again two years later to finance the Football World Cup.
The happiness spiral was then continued as a regular format on television. Since 1976, 50 percent of the proceeds from the Glücksspirale have been earmarked for the German Sports Association and 50 percent for the Federal Association of Independent Welfare.

Is the Luck Spiral tax-free?
Income tax is levied on the income portion of the monthly pension. The amount depends on the age of the winner. However, it is possible to avoid tax if you have the winnings paid out in full. Since there is no tax on lottery winnings in Germany, you will receive the entire winnings.
However, if the money is invested in such a way that interest is generated, the state is involved. Here the so-called withholding tax applies, which currently amounts to 25 percent. All income generated in this way must be declared to the tax authorities.
How long will you receive the Glücksspirale pension?
The Glücksspirale pension currently extends over a period of 20 years. 20 The winning plan of the Glücksspirale was changed before the main prize was paid out for life. This change is due to the fact that profits in the middle and lower profit categories have increased and the lifelong pension is no longer affordable due to the current low interest rates on the financial markets.
