Sudan: Heavy fighting in densely populated areas of Al-Fashir city

Despite repeated calls, fighting continues in parts of the city, Sudan’s humanitarian coordinator, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, said on Saturday. Heavy weapons are used in the densely populated parts of Al-Fashir. Wounded civilians were taken to hospitals and others tried to flee the combat zone. Nkweta-Salami said she was “deeply disturbed” and “disturbed” by reports of the fighting. This puts a total of 800,000 people at risk.

For more than a year, Sudan has been rocked by heavy fighting between the forces of military ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF militia of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo. According to the UN, tens of thousands of people have been killed so far and about 8.5 million people have been displaced. Aid agencies have repeatedly warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis.
