Suspected shooter at Super 8 motel in rural Minnesota is dead: Police say area is secure after ordering residents to shelter in place

  • ‘Multiple’ people were reported injured but it is unclear how many and the extent of their injuries
  • Police said it is still an active investigation and to remain clear of the area  

The suspected shooter at the Super 8 motel in rural Minnesota has died and police said the area is secure after a shelter in place was initially ordered. 

The unidentified gunman injured ‘multiple’ people near the motel located in the area of Big Lake Rd and Highway 33 in Cloquet, around 20 miles from Duluth. It is unclear how many gunshot victims there are and the extent of their injuries.

The shooter was found deceased around 8pm but it is unclear where exactly they were discovered. The identity of the suspect has also not been released. 

Police said that it is still an active scene and have asked people to continue to stay clear of the motel and the surrounding area.

Tom Zambori told DailyMail.com that he was at work across from the scene in the Pine Tree Plaza at the time of the shooting and that there are ‘lots of flashing lights.’ 

Cece Houle, another resident close to the scene told DailyMail.com: ‘I’m okay and there is an active shooter.’
