Techno announced the Phantom V Flip2 The Flip2 and V Fold2 last week, delivering two of the most aggressively priced foldables yet. The Flip2 costs just $699, but its appeal goes beyond being able to outperform its rivals. It has a new cover display and several new software features, but here’s what caught our eye during our early interactions.
Tecno moved away from the small circular screen in the first To turn and chose a (nearly) square 3.64″ screen that surrounds the cameras and LED flash. The internal panel remains the same as its predecessor, but the trimmed edges have made the phone a little narrower and shorter.
The Flip2 has gotten thicker, but the change is so minuscule you can’t even feel it.
The camera island design is a big change, but in the upcoming era of AI, Tecno has introduced a Gemini-powered voice assistant that comes pre-installed on the V Flip2. It’s a chatbot that will bring real-time search results and some features to improve overall usability.
The new large cover screen offers widgets, but it can also run full apps, including keyboard support, which could be a game-changer in the world of flip-foldables. We’ll have to dig deeper into the feature to determine its real-world practicality.
Another big improvement Tecno has made is the battery – its capacity is almost 20% larger, at 4,720mAh. The charging rate has also improved to 70W, and the company claims it can fill the entire battery in 43 minutes (or 50% in 15 minutes).
The capacity falls a little short of the Honor Magic V Flip’s 4,800mAh battery, but Tecno’s device is available in different markets, so comparing the phones would be irrelevant when they’re not directly competing.
We should also mention the new 50MP dual-camera setup and the 32MP selfie shooter with PDAF on the inner display. This is another major improvement that we will explore during our review process. Stay tuned for that!
