Frank Wycheck has died at 52 years old, the Tennessee Titans have announced, after a fall at his home.

A statement from the former tight end’s family, carried on the team website, said on Sunday: ‘At this time, it appears Wycheck fell inside his Chattanooga, TN home and hit his head on Saturday morning.

‘He was found unresponsive that afternoon.’

He leaves behind two adult daughters and three grandchildren, the Titans said.

Wycheck retired from football in 2011 after 11 seasons in the NFL. He finished up with 505 receptions, 5,126 yards and 28 touchdowns over 155 games.

After retirement, Wycheck moved into the media, doing color commentary for Titans radio. He was best known for his role in the ‘Music City Miracle’ – a play from January 8, 2000, during the 1999-2000 NFL playoffs.

It occurred at the end of the AFC Wild Card playoff game between the Titans and Buffalo Bills at Adelphia Coliseum in Nashville, Tennessee. After the Bills had taken a 16–15 lead on a field goal with 16 seconds remaining in the game, on the ensuing kickoff return, Wycheck, threw a lateral pass across the field to Kevin Dyson, who then ran 75 yards to score the winning touchdown to earn a 22–16 victory.
