Naomi Osaka raised some eyebrows in US Open due to the outfit she chose for her first fight, as many fans compared her to Tinkerbell on social media.

The 26-year-old four-times grand slam winner – ranked 88th in the world – appeared at Tuesday’s match against Austria’s Jelena Ostapenko, ranked number 10, wearing a pale green Nike top and a ruffled skirt tied with a large white bow.

In the warm-up, Osaka wore a white jacket with a large green bow and a white tutu, but took off both pieces of clothing before defeating his opponent, 6-3 6-2.

Osaka also had small green bows tied to the back of her white and green Nike sneakers.

“Bowing down to the Queen of Fashion @naomiosaka,” the official US Open account, X, shared alongside images of the Japanese tennis star and a bowing emoji.

Most fans also seemed to love Osaka’s outfit on social media.

“I loved the attention to detail and style,” one person said.

“Naomi Osaka’s kit for #USOpen day. Okay Tinkerbell,” shared another.

“So beautiful!” said another person, to which another user echoed: “Keep changing the game!”

However, some viewers were not impressed with Osaka’s originality at this year’s edition of the Grand Slam tournament.

“I have something similar in the back of my closet with other ’90s bridesmaid dresses,” one user said on X. “The @nike sneakers are fabulous!”

“Naomi Oaska, we won’t hold your team against you because you played very well today against the dangerous Jelena Ostapenko,” wrote another.

“I honestly can’t tell if I love or hate this outfit on Naomi Osaka, which I guess means I both love and hate it,” shared another person.

“Hey look at me! I wonder how this helps her anxiety,” one user noted, referring to the two-time US Open champion’s past battles with stress.

Osaka will face No. 52 Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the second round on Thursday.
