The surprise team of the 2023 NFL season was, without a doubt, the Houston Texans, as the team was able to strike gold in the offseason by drafting rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State and hiring DeMeco Ryans to be the team’s new head coach.
Both moves turned out to be brilliant for the struggling franchise, as the Texans hit the ground running and seemed to defy the odds on a weekly basis leading to the team winning the AFC South division title and pulling off an impressive upset over the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
As if the team being successful right away after bringing in their new franchise quarterback and head coach wasn’t promising enough for the future, the Texans will be armed with a lot of cap space this offseason and will attract some talented players who saw Houston become successful.
However, that could mean that some of the players from last season’s success might not return due to the team’s ability to bring in upgrades, like at the running back position with Devin Singletary.
With Saquon Barkley rumored to be a target for the Texans in NFL free agency, Singletary “isn’t a lock” to return to the team, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston via Dov Kleiman.

In 17 games in the 2023 NFL regular season, Singletary rushed for 898 yards and four touchdowns, which are decent numbers but definitely can be improved upon.
Along with Barkley, there will be some other notable running backs available, like Josh Jacobs, Austin Ekeler, and Derrick Henry.
