The Apple Watch has come a long way since its launch in 2015, and this year’s versions could come with a redesigned chassis, which is believed to be thinner and slightly larger than the current versions. The company has been gradually updating the wearables while adding more models to the mix, such as the Apple Watch Ultra and the budget-friendly Apple Watch SE. Now it’s being reported that the next iteration of the Apple Watch SE will feature a plastic chassis.

The next iteration of the Apple Watch SE could come in a hard plastic case, possibly to encourage adults to buy it for their children

According to Gurman BrandApple will reportedly launch the Apple Watch SE with a hard plastic case, potentially to save costs and keep prices in check. The analyst believes it is “looking increasingly likely” that the wearable will feature a hard plastic case instead of aluminum. The plastic variant will also appeal to parents looking for an Apple Watch for their kids to take advantage of Find My and cellular features.

The plastic Apple Watch could bring the same initiative from the company as the iPhone 5C, which was also made of rigid material, Rigid Plastic. The company also launched a new website in July that encouraged parents to get a cellular Apple Watch for their kids.”Apple Watch for your kids“The website boasted several features that could be beneficial to parents, including location tracking, calls, messages, and activity tracking. Parents can set up the Apple Watch for their children through their iPhones, meaning their activities would be synced, and it’s a great tool for school.

The plastic nature of the Apple Watch’s chassis opens the door for new color options, similar to the iPhone 5C lineup, to appeal to both parents and children. The company could offer the plastic Apple Watch in vibrant color options instead of pastel hues like the standard iPhone lineup. This would also allow the Apple Watch to look vastly different from the higher-end models with aluminum and stainless steel casings.

The current iteration of the Apple Watch SE is different from the standard models as well with its tweaked version of features, but the looks closely resemble the higher-end versions. The company may be working to create a wider gap between the two models while also appealing to parents. However, the company may offer the upcoming SE in black and white color options as well, which will keep the wearable open to adults.

We should note that aluminum is more scratch-resistant and generally more durable than plastic, and that may be the only downside to the material. We’ll share more details about the device as more information becomes available. Do you think Apple will reduce the price of the Apple Watch SE after encasing it in plastic?
