Author and director Thomas Heise has passed away. He died on Wednesday after a short, serious illness Berlin, as the Academy of Visual Arts announced, citing his immediate environment. So Heise was 68 years old.

During the GDR period and after reunification he made numerous documentaries, in which he also worked as an author. As director, Heise also directed part of the 2009 documentary 24 hours Berlin – A day in the life bee.

Heise was admitted to the Berlin Academy of Arts in 2001. Since 2018 he has been director of the film and media arts section there.
