After a strong start to the 2023-24 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have started to slow down during the stretch run.

Minnesota spent most of the year as the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed, but they’ve fallen down to third after going 6-4 in their previous 10 games.

The injury to Karl-Anthony Towns has been a major blow to the team’s offense, though several other players have dealt with their own nagging injuries.

Anthony Edwards remains a rising superstar, but he alone can’t carry the Timberwolves’ offense.

To rectify that, Minnesota decided to sign T.J. Warren to a 10-day contract a couple of weeks ago.

With his 10 days over, the Timberwolves are bringing back Warren on another 10-day, via Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“TJ Warren is signing a second 10-day contract with the Timberwolves, sources said. Warren has averaged nearly five points in 16 minutes a game over four contests for Minnesota,” Charania reported.

Warren is a gifted scorer when healthy, but he’s been plagued by several injuries during his NBA career.

However, on the Timberwolves he isn’t asked to do much off the bench except shoot and he’s fit in during his brief stint.

As long as Towns remains sidelined, Minnesota will need to find ways to keep their scoring up and Warren can at least help in that regard.

Perhaps with another strong stretch of games, Warren could parlay it into a rest-of-season deal where he’d also be eligible to play in the playoffs.

He’s a low-risk signing that makes a lot of sense for a young Timberwolves team.
