Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady was met with hostility from Wrexham fans ahead of the clash but took it like a champion.
The NFL legend, who is an investor in League One club Birmingham, was in attendance at St Andrew’s for the match against the Welsh side.
He may be one of the most successful athletes of all time, but his reputation mattered not a whit to the travelling Wrexham fans, who subjected him to an abusive chant.
In a video posted to social media, Wrexham fans can be heard shouting: “Who the f***, who the f***, who the f*** are you?” as he walked past where they were staying at the stadium.
Having bought just 3.3% of his stake in Birmingham in August 2023, Brady may not be as familiar with the tribal nature of UK football fans.
But credit to Bradyhe took the boos from the Wrexham fans in stride, smiling and giving a thumbs up to those involved.
And he had the last laugh as Birmingham claimed victory over the Dragons.
Wrexham took an early lead when Jack Marriott fired home from close range after Birmingham failed to clear a corner.
The Blues hit back in the 22nd minute with a close-range finish from Jay Stansfield after Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo had spurned a long-range effort into the path of the £15million forward.
Stansfield then turned the game around in the 52nd minute with his and Birmingham’s second goal of the game, turning in a cross from the left to beat Okonkwo.
And the score was 3-1, just before half-time, with a spectacular shot from distance by Tomoki Itawa, with his left foot.
Krystian Bielik was shown a red card for the Blues late on for a second bookable offence, but the visitors failed to capitalise.
And that left Brady with bragging rights.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, remain top but Birmingham are now level on points with them in second.
Birmingham v Wrexham promises to be a great rivalry in the battle for promotion to the Championship.
And there was a lot of barbs exchanged between the two clubs before the match.
Eli Manning, a long-time rival of Brady, was seen posing in a Wrexham shirt – something that did not impress the seven-time Super Bowl winner.
“Yeah, that was bullshit.” Brady told talkSPORT when asked about Manning wearing the Wrexham shirt.
“I didn’t like it at all, but that’s okay. He’s been my kryptonite in some big games.
“But you know what? I feel like I’ve been to a lot of Monday Night Football in America. Monday Night Football in the UK. If you love football and you love competition, this is the place you want to be.”
