Cole Palmer may have won the PFA Young Player of the Year award, but there was no place for him in the PFA Team of the Year.

And his England teammate Bukayo Saka was also a notable omission from the lineup despite an impressive season for Arsenal.

The pair was also two of Englandkey players at Euro 2024, where Palmer scored in the 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final.

Palm tree set the top flight alight after joining Chelsea from Manchester City, where he contributed 25 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for the Blues.

Meanwhile, Saka, who won the Young Player award last year, recorded career-best stats with 20 goals and 14 assists. Arsenal were narrowly beaten by City in the Premier League title race.

However, neither were selected by the PFA, which included five Arsenal players and four City stars.

Football fans were shocked by the decision, with social media flooded with shocked comments.

One X user posted: “No Palmer or Saka, that’s why these awards can never be taken seriously.”

Another message: “What’s a PFA Team of the Year list without Palmer or Saka? That’s a totally dishonest list.”

A third added: “Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer deserved to be there.”

This fan commented: “Saka deserved this more than anyone, to be honest Palmer should be here too.”

And this user simply stated: “No, Palmer and Saka are crazy.”

It was Saka and Palmer’s England team-mate Phil Foden who took home the PFA’s top prize, where he was crowned the Player of the Year.

And he was, unsurprisingly, named in the PFA Team of the Year – at the expense of Saka and Palmer.

David Raya, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard were Arsenal’s representatives in the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Foden, Kyle Walker, Rodri and Erling Haaland were the City players chosen by the PFA.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk played alongside Gabriel, Saliba and Walker in defence.

And Ollie Watkins – another member of England’s Euro 2024 squad – has been picked in attack after a brilliant campaign for Aston Villa.
