A report on the Republican candidate’s new book claims he will warn Meta CEO against interfering in the upcoming election
Former US President Donald Trump has accused Mark Zuckerberg of conspiring against him during the 2020 election and warned the Meta CEO not to do so again in the November vote, according to an excerpt from his soon-to-be-released book seen by Politico.
Titled “Save America” and set for release next week, Trump’s book features a photograph of him meeting with Zuckerberg at the White House when he was president.
Below the photo, Trump wrote a caption stating that the Meta chief “would come to the Oval Office to see me. He would take his lovely wife to dinners, be as nice as anyone could be, all the while conspiring to install shameful Lock Boxes in a veritable conspiracy against the President.”
Trump, the Politico report says, appears to be referring to a $420 million contribution that Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan made during the 2020 presidential election to fund voting infrastructure.
The former president went on to claim that Zuckerberg had told him there was “Nobody likes Trump on Facebook” but at the same time I had “directed against me.”
“We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time, he will spend the rest of his life in prison – just like others who cheat in the 2024 presidential election,” Trump reportedly warns in book.
The excerpt reviewed by Politico follows similar statements made by Trump in the past. In July, the Republican presidential candidate also wrote on his Truth Social platform that if elected, he would seek “voter fraudsters at levels never seen before” and would send them to prison for “long periods of time.”
“We already know who you are. Don’t do this! Zuckerbucks, be careful,” Trump wrote.
While Meta has not commented on the former president’s allegations and warnings, earlier this week Zuckerberg sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan admitting that senior officials in US President Joe Biden’s administration “repeatedly pressed” Facebook for “censor” Content about Covid-19 in 2021.
Meta’s CEO noted in the letter that he believed that “the government pressure was wrong” and regretted not having spoken about it at the time.
Zuckerberg went on to state that he will no longer compromise Facebook’s content standards due to pressure “of any administration in any direction.” He promised “back off if something like this happens again”, and will remain politically “neutral” before the November elections.
