In the trial for multiple violations of the gun law, the jury found the son of US President Joe Biden guilty on all three counts. This was reported by the American broadcaster CNN and the New York Times consistent. The 54-year-old’s sentence will be announced at a later date.

The jury found it proven that Hunter Biden lied to an arms dealer. He allegedly falsely stated in an application that he did not use drugs. Therefore, he possessed the gun illegally for eleven days. Hunter Biden denies the allegations.

According to CNN, the verdict is usually announced 120 days after the verdict is announced, i.e. before the US elections in the fall. Hunter Biden faces a prison sentence of up to 25 years and a fine of up to $750,000. However, it is unclear to what extent the judge responsible would limit the sentence in this case, as the 54-year-old has no previous convictions. In similar cases, there is often no prison sentence at all.

Political burden on Joe Biden

Before the verdict against Hunter Biden, US President Biden announced that he would not pardon him if he were found guilty. As president, he said at the start of the trial that he would not comment on the proceedings. “But as a father, I have boundless love for my son, trust in him and respect for his strength.” First Lady Jill Biden attended the trial of her stepson for several days, but the president did not attend.

The trial is a political burden for US President Joe Biden. His son’s conviction puts even more pressure on the Democrat in the middle of the election campaign. It is the first time that an immediate family member of a president has been convicted of a crime while in office.

Hunter Biden has been making headlines for years. In addition to alcohol and drug addiction, it also concerns shady business transactions or legal disputes over alimony for an illegitimate child. In early December, he was also indicted in California for failing to properly pay federal taxes for years.
