Former Federal President Christian Wulff agreed CDU-Chairman Friedrich Merz advised to fundamentally rule out coalitions with the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). He thinks it is “wrong and not helpful if this comes from the federal party,” Wulf says in the newspaper ARD-Talk show “Maischberger”. The “state parties must make very autonomous decisions in their states,” said the former CDU Prime Minister of Lower Saxony (2003-2010). ‘Just as Mr Merz will not be persuaded to do so when he talks to the Greens tomorrow the FDP wants to build a new government majority.”
After the state elections in September in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg, the CDU must investigate with whom it can form a coalition. ‘She can’t AfD It can’t be left. I think further exclusions are a mistake,” Wulff explains. The CDU ruled out coalitions and similar forms of cooperation with the AfD or the Left Party through a resolution of the party conference.
Merz was asked on ARD on Monday evening whether he was willing to think about a collaboration or coalition with the BSW to prevent AfD prime ministers in the east. “That’s absolutely clear, that’s what we’ve always said. We do not work with such right-wing extremist and left-wing extremist parties,” Merz replied. For Wagenknecht: “It is right-wing extremist on some points, left-wing extremist on others.” When asked on Tuesday, he said there was “no overlap whatsoever in politics with this group”, adding: “We will deal with everything else, which will then have to be looked at in light of the election results .”
