The Carolina Panthers need to bounce back in 2024, and a lot of that will have to do with Bryce Young’s development — or lack thereof.

The reigning No. 1 pick had a year to forget in his rookie season, and while he wasn’t put in a position to succeed, he didn’t look comfortable or ready out there.

That’s why all eyes will be set on him again next season, and he’s already arrived at the practice facility to get better ahead of his sophomore campaign.

Young had a 2-14 record in 16 appearances for the last-place Panthers last season, and it got so ugly at one point that some analysts thought the team needed to bench him to protect him and not break his confidence.

He was calm and poised in the pocket, but he failed to hit on easy throws over and over.

Granted, Frank Reich didn’t seem to be the right guy for the job, but still, firing a head coach midway through a rookie quarterback’s season won’t do much to help his development, especially if he plays behind a subpar offensive line.

Now, the Panthers have a quarterback whisperer leading the way in Dave Canales, and he’s already talked about his plans for the Alabama product.

Young isn’t the first quarterback to struggle in his rookie campaign, and growing pains are to be expected, so counting him out so quickly isn’t wise or fair.

Then again, people will want to see some major strides and big improvement from him this season, especially with all the doubts and concerns about his small frame.
