Realme operates in a very tough competition featuring other Chinese brands
South Africans will be spoiled for choice when Realme launches the Series 12 smart phone in South Africa soon.
Featuring the Realme 12+ 5G and Realme 12 5G smartphones, the series targets young consumers looking for a mid-range device without the hefty price tag of some other flagship products.
Gareth Clarke, Realme Account Lead for SA said the company is committed to empowering South Africa’s young generation to be bolder through technological and design leaps.
The Realme 12+ is expected to retail for R15,000, while the regular Realme 12 will retail for R9,000 but no local availability has been provided.

Camera
While the 12+ is the better of the two, the Realme 12 5G comes with a 108MP main camera, and 3X zoom.
There’s also an 8MP selfie camera, the same as the 12+, and it’s equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6 100+ 5G chipset. Unlike the 12+, the 12 has lower hardware performance but a better main camera.
The 120Hz AMOLED display is enhanced with advanced features such as Rainwater Smart Touch. This technology distinguishes between accidental water touches and actual finger input, as water can kill a phone unless it has an IP rating.
The Sunlight Display feature uses pixel-level dynamic contrast adjustment and backlight control to improve readability in bright sunlight.
Batteries for both cell phone remains the same, but fast charging is slower at just 45W.
Competition
While the Realme 12 series is neither Apple’s nor Samsung’s and does have good features for a mid-range phone that consumers will welcome, it operates in very tough competition with other features. China brands such as Huawei and Honor among others.
Many South Africans hope that the price is right, and despite this, there are others who want all the amenities including the latest technology featured in premium brands.
