Keel. Under the title “A new stage for Kiel”, Michal Halupka wants to give music – especially live music – more space. He has now found it at the Lindenau shipyard. “Since last year, we have been looking for a place where the triangular stage and the associated music network can grow.” Helge Petersen, director of the Lindenau-Maritim-Park, has set up a hall for it up to and including the test phase. end of 2024 The former shipyard site directly on the water was used for concerts.

New stage for Kiel: the triangular stage has room to grow
The studied musicologist and guitarist Michal Halupka is no stranger to the Kiel music scene. In the creative centre Alte Muh, he already runs Siebeneck & Triangel – a kiosk with a small stage for concerts, jam sessions or music lessons. “The big attraction is live music,” says Halupka. The triangle is a place where musicians meet and new bands are formed. But it also turned out that the room was too small. In the Oude Mu, which strives for a broad concept, expansion was not possible.
“We need our own creative center for music where bigger concerts are also possible,” says the 35-year-old. “I told everyone I was looking for a place for concerts.” A chance meeting with Helge Petersen helped him find the perfect location: the small white Hall 32 in the southern part of the shipyard.

During the last Kielweek weekend there was a small foretaste of what awaits there with several concerts at the Lindenau shipyard.

There at the former shipyard in Pries-Friedrichsort In the past few weeks, he and his friends and volunteers have made the area playable, built a small stage for the venue, removed waste and had tons of sand brought in to create a beach feeling with the fantastic view over the fjord. The maritime atmosphere has now been further expanded with deck chairs, yacht decorations, seats made of heavy wooden planks, parasols and campfires. Because Michal Halupka was still so busy with the infrastructure, there was only a three-day soft opening during Kiel Week, during which nine bands from different genres performed.
Place with a lot of potential on the beach in Kiel, but also in need of renovation
Halupka sees the great potential of the location for a branch of the Triangel stage. “I would like to implement something here gradually.” However, much still needs to be done to be able to offer weatherproof events in the long term. Due to years of dilapidation and vacancy, many halls are not in good condition. For larger concerts, more extensive renovations are necessary. That is why Halupka started a crowdfunding campaign. However, a lease agreement is a condition for the roof renovation, which costs around 50,000 euros. Until now, Michal Halupka has been able to use the site free of charge.
In addition to financial support, building materials and technology are also welcome. That is why there will be a creative gathering on Saturday (13 July) at the Lindenau construction site: from 16:00 anyone who wants to contribute ideas for other possible projects can come along. “I would be happy if many people from Friedrichsort would come,” said Halupka.

Smaller concerts are planned for August. The test phase will run until the end of 2024. Then Halupka and Petersen want to “take stock.” It depends on whether it will be “something permanent or just a temporary stop.” Because his goal remains to create a new permanent location for live music, studio, rehearsal space and bar in Kiel.
