Conor McGregor suggested that UFC referees should punish fighters who stall in the ring.

The Irishman called for major rule changes after watching Jose Aldo lose a split decision against Mario Bautista on Saturday night.

Bautista controlled Aldo in the ring for a portion of the fight as he was awarded the points victory, with two judges scoring the contest 29-28, 29-28 while a third judge gave the opposite result by the same margin.

Aldo was devastated by the decision and immediately fell to his knees afterwards.

McGregor was equally angry at the call and felt his old rival had done enough to win.

Via X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: “Dirty decision…

“Rogan said the judges didn’t even look. That’s Jose’s story. Bulls decision***.

“He just said he shot just to keep him against the fence.

“That’s not good enough. The referee needs to step in here. This sport is a fans’ sport.

“Remember this and act according to the referee, going forward, thank you.”

He then asked the referee to intervene and stop the previous cage fighting action.

McGregor added: “As a referee, if the fighters go to the same place [stall] over and over again I would place positions on the clock.

“And every time they go back there, the hours get shorter.

clock 30 seconds. Clocks 20 seconds, 10 seconds, 8 seconds, 6 seconds etc etc apart, apart, apart.

“There is no point in prolonging this position as if it has never happened in the same way before and nothing happens but stops. My opinion.”

McGregor famously beat Aldo in 13 seconds to capture the UFC featherweight title in 2015.

The pair have been embroiled in a bitter feud since then but that hasn’t stopped ‘Notorious’ from rushing to his former foe’s defense.
