The Dallas Cowboys flamed out of the 2023 NFL Playoffs and now have several questions they need to answer ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

The biggest question the Cowboys need to address is the future of Dak Prescott who is set to play the final year of his contract in 2024.

Prescott showed he can be one of the best quarterbacks in the league after his torrid finish to 2023, though so far he and the team have yet to make progress on an extension.

With the salary cap set to increase again next offseason, Prescott’s positioned to cash in on a deal that could potentially reset the quarterback market.

Despite the lack of an extension, Prescott said he’s focused on playing for the Cowboys and revisiting contract talks afterwards via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“Right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys, it’s where I want to be, and that’s where I am, and that’s the focus. And after the season we’ll see where we’re at and if the future holds that,” Prescott said.

Earlier in the offseason, Prescott said he was confident that an extension would get done but so far that has yet to come to fruition.

Team owner Jerry Jones also sounded like he was intent on re-signing Prescott but it looks like both sides will take this well into the offseason and potentially into the regular season.

It’ll be fascinating to see how things play out because as of now Dallas doesn’t have a clear succession plan at quarterback should Prescott end up walking next offseason.
