Blue suede shoes that Elvis Presley once wore were sold at auction in England for 120,000 pounds (about 140,000 euros). The so-called hammer price was £95,000. There are also costs and VAT.

“Blue Suede Shoes” is also the title of one of the most famous songs that made Elvis the King of Rock’n’Roll. The listener is urgently warned not to step on the elegant shoes.

The authenticity has been verified by leading Elvis experts

The song was written by rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Carl Perkins. “You can do anything you want, but stay away from my blue suede shoes,” it says. (You can do anything you want, but stay away from my blue suede shoes.)

According to the English auction house Henry Aldridge & Son, Elvis bought the shoes after covering the song. Their authenticity was confirmed by leading Elvis expert Jimmy Velvet.

Elvis wore the shoes on TV

The shoes are “as iconic as they come,” enthused auctioneer Andrew Aldridge, according to Britain’s PA news agency. “They’re just an extraordinary part of show business, music and popular culture,” Aldridge continued.

Elvis gave the shoes to a friend shortly before he was called up for military service, the auction house’s website said.

The star, who died in 1977, is said to have worn them during a television appearance in the 1950s, even joking about it. “I think I’m wearing something that’s not quite evening wear,” Elvis, dressed in a tailcoat, said in a posed chat with showmaster Steve Allen, adding: “Blue suede shoes.”
