The murder of John Lennon might be the most publicized homicide in history to have never gone to court. Those who were present that fateful day in 1980 will give their de facto testimonies in the upcoming Apple TV+ docuseries John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, which has debuted its official trailer.
Directed by Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream, Murder Without a Trial culls from material granted by NYPD via numerous Freedom of Information Act requests. The result is a “deeply researched examination” of the former Beatle‘s assassination outside his Manhattan home, from killer Mark David Chapman’s months of planning to the devastating aftermath.
Along with previously unseen crime scene photos, the three-part series will compile new interviews with first-hand accounts. Those featured include Richard Peterson, a taxi driver who witnessed the shooting; Jay Hastings, a doorman at Lennon’s apartment building who heard his last words; David Suggs, Chapman’s defense lawyer; Elliot Mintz, a confidant to Lennon and Yoko Ono; and Dr. Naomi Goldstein, the psychiatrist who first assessed Chapman.
