Kirk Cousins signed the biggest contract of any free agent this year, landing with the Atlanta Falcons on a 4-year, $180 million deal shortly after free agency opened on Monday.
Cousins, who will be 36 when next season begins, led the Vikings for six years and now takes over an offense that desperately needed a reliable quarterback.
It’s easy to see why he chose the Falcons, but that doesn’t mean the decision itself was easy, and Cousins spoke fondly of his time in Minnesota in his recent message on Twitter thanking the Vikings fans for his time there.

Cousins acknowledged that signing the contract was “bittersweet” and said: “A quarterback really doesn’t have a chance without great people around them and for six seasons in Minnesota I had great people around me.”
He also thanked the people who he and his family spent time with in Minnesota, as well as everyone up and down the organization.
Cousins leaves behind an offense loaded with talent to newly-signed quarterback Sam Darnold, who joined the Vikings on a one-year, $10 million deal to prove himself as a starter.
With one loaded offense in the rearview mirror, Cousins now has another stacked offense to look forward to in Atlanta with a trio of recent explosive top-10 picks to work with in Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.
Cousins should be ready to go for Week 1 following an Achilles injury and joins a team that many believed was simply a quarterback away from contention last year.
