North Korea has according to information from South Korea again tested two ballistic missiles. The missiles were launched Monday morning (local time) and flew towards the northeast, the South Korean General Staff said. The first rocket flew 600 kilometers, the second 120 kilometers. South Korean media, citing military sources, reported that the first missile landed in the sea and the second on North Korean territory. There have been no reports of damage so far.

Depending on their design, ballistic missiles can be equipped with a nuclear warhead. The isolated North Korea is subject to international sanctions because of its nuclear weapons program. Pyongyang’s leadership is prohibited by UN resolutions from launching and testing ballistic missiles. However, North Korea repeatedly ignores this and tests similar missiles.

On Sunday, North Korea held a joint military exercise between South Korea, Japan and… US sentenced, which had recently ended. A U.S. aircraft carrier, destroyers, fighter jets and helicopters participated in the Freedom Edge exercise. The three countries practiced missile defense, anti-submarine warfare and maritime interdiction.

Relations between North and South Korea are currently at a low point. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had announced that he would expand weapons development. In response, South Korea and the United States have increased their defense cooperation. Balloons loaded with wastethat North Korea sent across the border into South Korea recently caused further tensions between the countries.
