Rangers are keeping close tabs on Hearts ace Lawrence Shankland but may have to wait until the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the talisman has been offered a “record-breaking deal” to stay at Tynecastle, but is yet to pen new terms.

It is believed that if Shankland does not sign a new deal with Hearts, the Gers will attempt to lure him to Ibrox.

Rangers are keeping close tabs on the Scotland international’s situation in Edinburgh, but a deal this month would be difficult to complete.

Shankland is the Scottish top-flight’s leading scorer this season and has notched 18 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Jambos.

The centre-forward has been frequently linked with a move to the Glasgow giants following consistently prolific campaigns with Hearts.

Shankland has just 18 months left on his current deal, meaning Rangers will be in a solid position to snap him up in the summer on more favourable terms.

Philippe Clement’s side remain in the market for further recruitment in attack this month following their landmark deal for Wolves ace Fabio Silva.

Sources have told Football Insider (17 January) that they, along with Celtic and Premier League sides Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, are tracking Bristol City hot-shot Tommy Conway.

Rangers sit second in the league table and are eight points away from Celtic with two games in hand.

They are next in action in the Scottish Cup on Saturday (20 January) against fourth-tier Dumbarton.
