The Pittsburgh Steelers have been held back by mediocre quarterback play over the past two years and have improved that situation by making not one, but two blockbuster QB acquisitions this offseason.

Earlier this offseason the Steelers brought in veteran Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson to take over at quarterback, and this week the QB carousel continued to go around as Pittsburgh traded a conditional sixth-round pick for Bears QB Justin Fields to serve as Wilson’s backup.

Wilson has been welcoming so far and posted a simple “let’s get it” on X to greet his new backup.

A bevy of both starting and backup quarterbacks have switched teams this offseason, and it reached a point where Fields was quickly out of starting options with a new team.

The few teams with obvious needs for a new quarterback appeared pretty set on waiting until the draft for a rookie, but Pittsburgh is looking to win now and has brought in an accomplished veteran and a young upstart with plenty of potential in Fields.

The Steelers moved Kenny Pickett to Philadelphia to make route for Fields, who will not be competing for a starting role and now has a pretty ideal veteran to learn from who possesses a similar skill set to him.

Fields threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions last season in 13 games for the Bears and added another 657 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

It’s great to see Wilson already embracing his new teammate, and fans can only hope he can pass off some of his wisdom to Fields and help groom Pittsburgh’s future franchise quarterback.
