Samsung may launch a tri-fold smartphone in 2025, Korean industry insiders have revealed. The company is ready with the technology and the supply chain is prepared for the new product. However, the final call should come from the MX (Mobile eXperience) division responsible for foldable phones.

According to the same report, orders for foldable OLED panels declined by more than 10% due to demand for Galaxy Z Fold6 And Galaxy Z Flip6 did not meet expectations.

Samsung Display’s shipments for foldable OLED panels will total 12 million in 2024, a sharp drop of 40% from last year’s 20 million shipments. This includes screens for Galaxy products and other companies that rely on Samsung as a supplier like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, in particular, account for around 8 million units, compared to an expected 10 million sales. The sales trend for all devices, new and old, is declining year over year. According to the report, Samsung could try to combat this problem by using a cheaper Galaxy Flip, making the form factor accessible to a wider audience.
