A major explosion hit a key Russian gas pipeline for the second time in ten months.

Footage caught the huge fireball from the blast on the Yamburg-Yelets 1 main supply pipe.

The glow from the inferno and smoke column were visible for several miles.

The cause of the explosion is being urgently investigated and comes amid a series of sabotage strikes on key Russian energy facilities linked to the war in Ukraine.

Kyiv rarely claims responsibility for such strikes.

The powerful inferno was near the village of Lykhma in the Khanty-Mansi region of Siberia, 300 miles north of capital Khanty-Mansiysk

Reports said there were no casualties in the remote explosion.

The gas pipeline had to be cut, hitting supplies to European Russia.

In January, Ukraine managed to use a fleet of drones to attack an oil refinery deep inside Russian territory.

The SBU struck a refinery used by Russian oil company Rosneft in Tuapse, a town on the Black Sea far away from Ukrainian territory.

A fire at the facility reportedly spread over 200 square metres before it was put out.

That attack took place four days after SBU drones attacked a refinery in Ust-Luga, a port city in the Leningrad region. The hub is one of Russia’s two main oil export epicentres, and the attack forced it to halt its operations at the time.
