  • Residents in Oahu – around 200 miles from the epicenter – reported huge tremors and shaking buildings

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck south of Hawaii’s Big Island, rocking buildings and triggering huge tremors across the island of Oahu over 200 miles away from the epicenter, officials say.

The earthquake hit at a depth of over six miles around four miles southeast of Naalehu, although the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami is not expected.

It is unclear if the earthquake has resulted in any deaths or injuries.

The Tsunami agency catalogued the intensity of the natural disaster as VI – meaning it is significant, but is not expected to cause catastrophic damage.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information is confirmed.
