Activists have once again occupied rooms at a Berlin university in support of the Palestinians and in protest against Israel. The police and a dpa photographer initially spoke of about fifty squatters who were in the Institute for Social Sciences of Humboldt University on Universitätsstrasse as of Wednesday afternoon. Another 250 to 300 young people demonstrated on the streets.
Humboldt University occupied – police monitoring the situation
A police spokesperson said they were working closely with the university. A university spokeswoman said they were initially monitoring the situation.
In a statement, occupiers from the group called Student Coalition Berlin accused Israel of “genocide” and “ongoing mass killings.” It is about “unconditional solidarity with the Palestinian people”. They called on the university to accept their appeal and presence and ban police intervention.
An occupation of rooms at the Free University of Berlin by the same group was recently cleared by police.
