With the 2024 NFL Draft filled with multiple quarterback prospects, analysts are mixed in their reviews of these prospects.

NFL analyst Danny Kanell has identified the quarterback he believes has the most unpolished potential to play on Sundays for several years to come.

The NFL on CBS posted a video clip to Twitter of Kanell breaking down UNC quarterback Drake Maye’s abilities, suggesting the quarterback has “the rawest potential of this quarterback class.”

Kanell noted that Maye started two full seasons for his college team, giving him limited experience playing on the field compared to other quarterbacks in this class who have significantly more games under their belt.

Maye also had to learn two different styles of offense while in college, Kanell noted, after UNC switched offensive coordinators following the 2022 season.

The offensive transition led Maye to having miscues early last season, problems he overcame as the season went along, Kanell noted.

The analyst further praised Maye’s ability to make plays for his offense, singling out his pocket presence and his ability to make catchable throws as two reasons NFL teams should see Maye as a potential franchise quarterback.

Later in the video clip, Kanell broke down multiple plays of Maye.

He pointed out the quarterback’s vertical passes and ability to fit throws inside tight passing windows as highlights of Maye’s unpolished skill set.

In 2023, Maye completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,608 yards and 24 passing touchdowns in 12 games.

Maye added 449 rushing yards and nine touchdowns last season for the Tar Heels.
