The Carolina Panthers finished the 2023 NFL Season with the worst record in the league.

This poor record was after they traded up in the NFL Draft to select Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick, who didn’t pan out as expected in his rookie year.

The Panthers have worked hard thus far in the offseason to improve their roster, including their addition of wide receiver Diontae Johnson.

While the front office is making a concerted effort to improve, some fans and analysts are unsure if this team can improve under Young.

Craig Carton recently spoke about this on his show, saying, “Bryce Young will never be a competent quarterback in the NFL.”

Despite being picked No. 1 overall in last year’s draft, Young was a polarizing prospect coming into the league.

There were concerns about his size and whether he could hold up throughout an NFL season.

It might be early in his career, but many fans, including Carton, didn’t like what they saw in his rookie season and are worried this trend will continue.

In Carton’s mind, it doesn’t matter who the Panthers add to this team; if Young is the quarterback, he doesn’t think they will gain any traction over the next several seasons.

This concern with Young comes at a time when the NFC South is starting to gain some traction.

Baker Mayfield played well in his first full season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and with his recent extension in mind, he will be a problem for the next few years.

The same goes for Kirk Cousins with the Atlanta Falcons, a team expected to improve significantly next year.

It will be interesting to see if Young and the Panthers can turn it around.
