The Philadephia 76ers got some amazing news on Monday morning when it was announced that reigning MVP Joel Embiid is expected to return from his injury this week.

In fact, he could suit up as early as Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This could be a game-changer, according to Chris Canty.

Speaking on UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio, Canty said that if Embiid is able to play as he did earlier in the season, the 76ers could be in really good shape before the playoffs kick off.

The Sixers are currently the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, holding a 40-35 record.

They were in much better shape when Embiid was injured, showing just how much an impact he makes for the team.

The 76ers might be the eighth seed, but they are also close to becoming the seventh or sixth.

If Embiid looks like he did when he left, the Sixers could surge forward in a huge way.

Before his knee problems, Embiid was averaging 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, shooting 53.3% from the floor.

He was likely on his way to another MVP trophy, which is now out of reach because of the league’s new 65-game threshold.

Even though he is out of contention for that prize, the Sixers are not out of contention for the playoffs.

They could be a real force in the East with a fully healthy Embiid, alongside Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris, Kelly Oubre, and others.

Embiid has made no secret of his singular goal of reaching the NBA Finals.

The 76ers will have a tough road to make that happen but it is possible.

It’s far more possible with Embiid back in the lineup.
