Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports is never one to shy away from a scalding hot take.

Not only is that true, but Cowherd is always willing to plant his flag and will die on his hill even when his hot take isn’t aging well.

That’s exactly what he is doing with new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, as Cowherd says he has “not given up” on the former No. 3 pick, via “The Herd.”

Cowherd highlights all the weapons Darnold will now have at his disposal in Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Addison, and now Aaron Jones.

“Finally, I will be proven right, Sam Darnold is a winner,” Cowherd added.

Darnold served as the backup to Brock Purdy last season in San Francisco.

He will now likely have a chance to compete for a starting role in what could be his last chance to prove himself as a franchise quarterback.

Baker Mayfield went through a similar trajectory from that same draft class, with his original team falling apart around him, then getting a chance to start for the Carolina Panthers before being let go, and then getting a 1-year deal to compete for a starting job again.

The Vikings wouldn’t have given Darnold a $10 million deal if they didn’t believe he was capable of starting.

However that’s not franchise QB money, and with the 11th pick in the draft, the Vikings will certainly be in the mix for one of the many rookie quarterback talents available.

Darnold has never had anything close to this amount of weapons around him, but let’s see if he can replicate the career revival Mayfield had and secure his own $100 million bag.
