Heading into the 2023 NFL season, the Houston Texans had made some major moves in an effort to right the ship in the near future, as they drafted a potential franchise quarterback in C.J. Stroud, a potential leader on defense in Will Anderson Jr., and a promising young head coach in DeMeco Ryans.

All three of these moves have already paid off, with the Texans being the surprise team of the 2023 campaign, as they defied the odds and went on to win the AFC South division title, which resulted in a playoff berth and ultimately a playoff win over the Cleveland Browns in the first round.

Even though the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens proved too much to handle for the upstart Texans, Houston had already far exceeded expectations and put the league on notice in the process.

As if the team wasn’t already headed in the right direction after making all the right moves in 2023, the Texans were able to get their hands on one of the best pass rushers in the game in NFL free agency, with the team signing former Minnesota Vikings star Danielle Hunter.

This led ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky to share an intriguing observation of his, via NFL on ESPN.

“I think the Houston Texans are trying to be the 2021 Cincinnati Bengals,” Orlovsky said.

Orlovsky’s comparison to the Bengals from a few years ago is spot on, and it seems to be where the Texans are headed, as this team is about as promising as they come with all the boxes checked right now.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the Texans moving forward, but the future looks very bright in Houston.
