The mayor of Swabian GmündRichard Arnold is in favor of a more consistent approach in the fight against juvenile crime. Far too much time passes between the crime and the conviction, the CDU politician said on Tuesday evening in the ZDF program “Markus Lanz”. Young people need to know that breaking the rules has serious consequences; they would only realize this if punishment followed immediately. Arnold criticized that serious crimes often led to suspended sentences.

According to Arnold, he himself has a ‘list of bad guys’ in Gmünd that he keeps a special eye on. The list contains ten to twelve people. He also has regular contact with the police; the specialist there can already predict how often the next crime will occur. There must be a response. In this context, Arnold spoke out in favor of a mandatory social year.
