Noel Gallagher was once left needing stitches after he was accidentally headbutted by Manchester City star Ruben Dias’ dad during the club’s title celebrations.

The pair were celebrating at the end of the 2021/22 season after Ilkay Gundogan’s goal secured City’s title crown. Gallagher explained how Dias’ father, described as a “big bear of a man”, collided with his face instead of lifting him in celebration and how a stunned Pep Guardiola was left asking “What’s happened to your f****** face?”

Gallagher was even forced to miss the final nine minutes of the game to receive medical treatment. He previously told the Pub Talk podcast: “Ruben Dias’ old fella is in a box next door to us. He’s a big bear of a man, he’s massive. When he’s at the games, he likes a drink and he’s over the balcony shouting. He’s a good lad.”

“My face was covered in blood and you know that bit when the final whistle goes and Pep starts crying, he runs up the tunnel. He was running up to his box to see his family as I was coming down with the St John’s Ambulance guy. We met in the corridor and he was in tears. We hugged and he goes, ‘What’s happened to your f*****g face?’ My lad thinks I’m crazy.”

On the same podcast, Gallagher went on to have his say on Erling Haaland and correctly predicted that he would be the missing piece of the puzzle – the man to finally bring the Champions League to Man City.

Gallagher said: “The people who run that club are amazing because the two most important signings were Guardiola and getting this lad. [The Champions League] he’s going to win it for us. I’m not an expert, I see it as a fan, but watching him in the flesh he is never stood still with his arms in the air.”

Guardiola is contracted at Man City until the end of next season and said he will speak to his family first before extending his time at the Etihad, suggesting he may be considering life after managing the club.

“We have to see how players’ behaviour is, whether we are keeping our standards,” Guardiola told reporters. “Next year will be nine seasons, which is a lot of time. Extending after two years is not the same as extending after nine. We have a lot of time [to decide]. But now I feel really good.”
