On Thursday, it was announced that the Oakland Athletics will play three seasons in Sacramento after 2024.
Their current lease to use the Oakland Coliseum expires this year, so they had been looking for a place to play until the Las Vegas stadium is completed.
The long-term plan is still to play in Las Vegas at some point before the end of the decade, but the new stadium won’t be finished before 2028.
That’s why the sides came to an agreement to play in Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park from 2025 to 2027, including an option for a fourth year should the Las Vegas stadium still be under construction.
Many fans are wondering how they will refer to the team when it is in Sacramento.
For what it’s worth, the organization filed a couple of notable trademarks, which can give us a few clues.
“The Oakland A’s filed two new trademarks yesterday, per @JoshGerben: • SACRAMENTO A’S • SACRAMENTO ATHLETICS,” Front Office Sports tweeted.

It looks like the Athletics will be keeping their name and nickname during their time in Sacramento.
At least that’s the impression we get from the events that happened in the last two days.
We still have to wait for confirmation by the team, though.
The A’s will be playing in a 10,000-seat stadium.
Sutter Health Park is actually the home of the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A team.
From 2025 to 2027, however, it will welcome the Athletics.
Sacramento fans will have MLB baseball, but Oakland supporters are losing more than a team with the relocation.
They are losing a valuable part of their past.
