The 2023 season was another ugly one for the Carolina Panthers, and they’re hoping to take steps back to respectability by the time next season starts.

They do have some talent, starting with quarterback Bryce Young, who struggled as a rookie in 2023, and wide receiver Adam Thielen.

But Carolina needs some help on defense, and on Friday, per Adam Schefter, they agreed to a one-year contract with safety Nick Scott.

Scott has played five seasons in the NFL, with the first four of those seasons coming with the Los Angeles Rams.

He earned himself a Super Bowl ring in the 2021 campaign, and the following year, he started all 16 of the games he appeared in.

Scott then moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals for last season, and he posted 57 tackles (35 solo) in 17 games, 10 of which he started.

What made the 2023 season all the more painful for Carolina is the fact that last offseason’s trade with the Chicago Bears that gave them the right to draft Young cost them the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, which would’ve given them the choice of drafting Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye.

Young only completed 59.8 percent of his pass attempts and threw for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions as a rookie, and some are likely starting to wonder if he will be a bust.

The Panthers haven’t made the playoffs since the 2017 season, and they haven’t won a playoff game since 2015, the year they went to the Super Bowl and lost to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
