After a furious three-week free agency period, most top free agents have inked new deals.

Now, fans and analysts can begin ranking the best available athletes and where each should sign.

One such member of any list is cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Pro Football Focus recently suggested that Gilmore’s best available landing spot is with the Detroit Lions.

At age 33, Gilmore could join his sixth different team during this round of free agency if Dallas does not re-sign him.

Gilmore began his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2012.

Since, the well-traveled veteran has played for four other franchises: New England, Carolina, Indianapolis, and Dallas.

Gilmore joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 via trade from the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2023, Gilmore recorded his highest tackle total of his 12-year career with 68 total tackles.

The Rock Hill, South Carolina native also notched 13 pass deflections and two interceptions for Dallas.

PFF’s preferred destination for Gilmore – the Lions – have already made moves this offseason to shore up their defensive backfield.

The Lions inked a deal with former Raiders corner Amik Robertson, signing him to a two-year, $9.25 million contract in March.

While Detroit lost safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to Philadelphia in free agency, the Lions re-signed corner Khalil Dorsey to a one-year deal.

The former South Carolina athlete has recorded 561 tackles, 31 interceptions, and 64 pass deflections during his NFL career.

The Carolina Panthers could also be in the mix for the cornerback’s services, at least according to one recent addition with the team.

Jadeveon Clowney – who signed with Carolina in March – said he would reach out to his former high school and college teammate to get Gilmore to sign with the Panthers.
