The Pittsburgh Steelers have a revamped quarterback room.

Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan have addressed the Steelers’ biggest issue.

Tomlin has made it loud and clear that the starting QB job is Russell Wilson’s to lose right now.

Nonetheless, former NFL QB Robert Griffin III doesn’t think that’s a bad thing for Justin Fields.

Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, the former Heisman winner claimed that Fields is going to be the Steelers’ quarterback for the future.

“I think he is,” Griffin said when asked if he thinks Justin Fields is the QB of the future in Pittsburgh.

He believes that Tomlin is praising him to take pressure off his shoulders right now, adding that the team will handle him in a way that he gets to carry the torch after this season.

Griffin III also stated that even though he’s currently a backup, he now has the best supporting cast he’s ever had in his career, starting with an elite defense anchored by TJ Watt, and a solid offense with three bona fide players like George Pickens, Jaylen Warren, and Najee Harris.

Needless to say, Fields has a higher upside than Wilson at this point in his career, but Wilson gives them the best opportunity to win now.

Even so, he’s still quite young, and the team should be patient with him.

He’ll get to learn a new offense and play for a new coach, and perhaps he just needs one year on the sidelines before being ready to showcase his talents for years to come.
