A particular moment during the family festivities was the “final straw” for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before they left the Firm, leaving them certain that they needed to go their “own way,” says one real author.

In 2019, the royal duo spent Christmas in America with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and in an apparent replacement for the couple, they were left “aside” by a decision of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The couple were reportedly “furious” that Queen Elizabeth had family portraits visible on her desk for her Christmas broadcast, but none of them included Prince Harry, Meghan Markle or their newborn son, Prince Archie. Their photo was “notably absent.”

The book Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand states that the family was “conspiring against them” with the move. He states: “One need look no further than the family photographs displayed during the Queen’s Christmas Day speech. In the Green Drawing Room in Buckingham Palacewhere the Queen gave her speech, viewers were able to see photos of the [Waleses] and his children, Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip and a black and white image of George VI.”

The book claims the couple thought it was “yet another sign that they needed to consider their own path” and in 2020 the pair stepped down as senior royals. eventually moving to Montecito, California.
