Munich – It’s been two and a half months FC Bayern are looking for a coach and it is still completely unclear who will be their successor from the summer Thomas Tuchel will compete. Instead, the preferred candidates are shrinking en masse, and details of the discussions are regularly leaked to the media.
It is clear that the record champions are doing everything but Bayern-like when they are looking for a coach Karl Heinz Rummenigge not good at all. In an interview with the Spanish ‘AS’, the old manager and the current supervisory board criticized the current leadership and called on his successors to be more discreet.
He is no longer directly involved in current topics, as he stepped down as CEO in 2021. “However, I can only recommend that we become more reserved again,” the 68-year-old told his successors.

The Munich team has been looking for a new coach since the decision to part ways with coach Thomas Tuchel in mid-February. Recently, some preferred candidates such as Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen) and Ralf Rangnick (team boss in Austria) had withdrawn. A lot of information about the search for a coach has repeatedly appeared in the media.
Rummenigge criticized this and referred to the signing of Pep Guardiola, who was successful in 2013 under himself and then club president Uli Hoeneß. “When we signed Pep, we worked on the operation for a total of six months and no one found out,” Rummenigge recalls, advising: “You have to act strategically, but without the next step being in all the newspapers every day.”
FC Bayern is keeping an eye on Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag
After a disappointing year in the Bundesliga and DFB Cup, the Munich team wants a coach who will further develop the team. After several rejections, there is currently speculation about Erik ten Hag as a possible candidate. The 54-year-old Dutchman still has a contract as Manchester United coach until 2025, but could leave Old Trafford prematurely after an overall disappointing season. United lost 4-0 at Crystal Palace on Monday evening and are in danger of missing out on participation in next year’s European Cup – the Ten Hag team had already lost their Champions League chances recently.

Rummenigge: “We have deviated from our course a bit recently”
Rummenigge said missing out on the championship title was no big deal. However, he warned that the club would have to focus more on continuity in the future. “Recently we have deviated from our course somewhat, both on the field and at management level,” said the ex-professional.
“FC Bayern must regain at all levels that stability that has always distinguished it. You must not forget that people like Uli (Hoeneß), Franz (Beckenbauer) and I have been at the helm of this ship for a hundred years, or at least it was .” I feel that it is difficult to achieve such longevity in a leading position, but FC Bayern must return to the path of continuity.”
