Several dead in train crash in Czech Republic

Pardubice

A fully occupied passenger train collided with a freight train in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Four people were killed and many injured in the accident, a spokeswoman for the rescue service said on public television. A spokesperson for the railway fire brigade spoke of dozens of victims who had been injured, some seriously. Scores of rescue workers, such as firefighters, paramedics and doctors, and at least one rescue helicopter rushed to the accident site, about 100 kilometers east of Prague.

Photos showed that one of the carriages of the passenger train, which was driving directly behind the locomotive, derailed and was severely damaged. It is a night express train of the private railway company Regiojet that ran from Prague to Kosice in Slovakia. Interior Minister Vit Rakusan and Transport Minister Martin Kupka went to the scene of the accident, Rakusan announced via the online platform X.
