Kazakhstan, centrally located Asiais among the 10 largest countries in the world in terms of area, but due to its geographic location, when viewed on a map, it is often considered small.
The country, which has an area of 2,699,700 square kilometers, lies between Russiathe largest country in the world by area and China, the third largest country in the world by area, which makes it seem so small.
But in reality, the size of the country is so immense that it could stretch from Ireland to Turkey and its land mass is larger than the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Finland combined.
Additionally, its westernmost point is closer to France than its easternmost point.
Despite its size, Kazakhstan has a small population of around 20 million; its population density is less than six inhabitants per square kilometer, making it one of the lowest population densities in the world.
The reason the population is so low is that much of Kazakhstan’s land is too dry, making it uninhabitable, making the northeast and southeast areas highly concentrated.
A third of the country is occupied by the Kazakh steppe. A steppe is characterized by large areas of grassland and sandy regions.
The Kazakh steppe is the largest in the world with an area of 804,450 square kilometers and only receives between 200 and 400 mm of rain per year.
