The San Antonio Spurs don’t have anything left to play for at this point in the season other than ping-pong balls and the NBA Draft.

Notably, that doesn’t mean they’re not going to go hard out there and compete every single night.

That’s why the reigning No. 1 pick, Victor Wembanyama, took it upon himself to lead his team to a shocking overtime win over the red-hot New York Knicks.

Wembanyama dominated with 40 points on 22 shots, adding 20 rebounds, seven assists, four three-pointers, two steals, and one block in 38 minutes.

Jalen Brunson tried to do everything in his power to prevent his Knicks from falling, scoring a career-high 61 points on 25-of-47 shooting, adding five triples, four rebounds, six assists, and one steal en route to a 130-126 loss.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, that’s just the second time in NBA history when a player with a 40-point, 20-rebound performance went against someone who put up 60+ points.

The only time this had happened before came on December 8, 1961, when Los Angeles Lakers great Elgin Baylor put up 63 against the legendary Wilt Chamberlain, who had 78 points and 43 rebounds.

It’s crazy and funny to see that Wilt continues to be at the top of most records.

But every time you’re mentioned in the same sentence as Wilt Chamberlain or Elgin Baylor, you know you’re doing things well.

Wembanyama is one of the most talented guys to watch in the league right now, but Brunson isn’t that far behind him, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them making the MVP shortlist multiple times for years to come.
