The federal government plans to tighten aviation safety law to prevent radical climate activists and other troublemakers from taking action at German airports. Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser According to government circles, (SPD) will discuss a corresponding bill in the federal cabinet this Wednesday.

The core of the planned reform is the introduction of a new regulation that will criminalise intentional and unauthorised trespassing on tarmac and runways if it endangers the safety of civil aviation.

Anyone who, for example, cuts through a fence and blocks a runway could face a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine. Even the attempt should be punishable. Until now, only a fine has been imposed in such cases.
