According to Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser, the German security authorities have the Islamic scene in Germany firmly in their sights. “We use all instruments: from intelligence observation to intensive investigation,” the SPD politician told the newspapers of media group Funke. In recent months alone, authorities have struck several times early to prevent planned attacks.
Faeser assured that those who fantasized about a caliphate during an Islamist demonstration in Hamburg at the end of April would also come to the attention of security authorities. “In our constitutional state, we can only ban such groups if the high legal requirements are met,” the minister said.
The Muslim group Interaktiv, which is classified as extremist, wants to take to the streets in Hamburg again today. The collection is subject to strict conditions. These include the ban on incitement to hatred or violence and the denial of Israel’s right to exist. During a meeting at the end of April, also organized by Muslim Interaktiv, calls were made, among other things, for a caliphate as a solution to social problems. The march sparked national outrage.
Faeser described the strict requirements of the Hamburg authorities as correct. “This makes immediate and harsh action possible if the demonstration aggressively calls for a caliphate in Germany and if Israel is denied its right to exist or incites Jews,” the minister said. Security authorities also kept a close eye on whether the ban on the terrorist organization was violated Hamas and the Samidoun group will be rejected. “This is a criminal offense that allows for direct action, even during demonstrations.”
