Oscars 2024 RECAP: Emma Stone takes Best Actress – but Oppenheimer is biggest winner of the night with SEVEN AWARDS, while Ryan Gosling dazzles in I’m Just Ken performance

In a post on Truth Social, Donald asked, ‘Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?

He added, ‘His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.’

In response, Jimmy read the post aloud to the audience and jokingly responded with, ‘Isn’t it past your jail time?’

The actress was awarded for her role in Poor Things, but when she stepped in front of the crowd to deliver her speech, she suffered an awkward moment when her dress broke.

She joked that it must have happened during Ryan Gosling’s performance of I’m Just Ken.

‘My dress is broken, don’t look at my back,’ she told the audience after her thank yous.

This was the acclaimed director’s first Academy Award win, despite earning eight nominations over the years.

It marked the movie’s fifth win of the night. He beat out Bradley Cooper, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti, and Jeffrey Wright.

Billie could hardly contain her excitement as she accepted the award from Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

At age 22, the accolade made the singer the youngest person to have won two Oscars.

She previously won in 2021 for her song No Time to Die from the film of the same name.

The two stars both wore custom Fendi outfits for the evening. At one point, the actor was seen fixing the tail of his girlfriend’s dress – how sweet?

The actor’s over-the-top rendition left many of the celebrity attendees in shambles.

He even jumped into the audience at one point and handed the microphone over to his co-stars, including Kate McKinnon and Margot Robbie, who sang along between their giggles.

Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller beat out Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Poor Things.

Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima earned the honor.

The talented star took to the podium to showcase his signature wit and even joked about his ‘terrible childhood’ while accepting the honor.

He said: ‘Thank you. I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and The Academy, in that order.

‘I’d like to thank my veterinarian – I meant wife, Susan Downey, over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you.’

The two stars joked about the rivalry between their movies before delivering a tribute to stunt actors.

The historical drama was written and directed by Jonathan Glazer.

He covered his private parts with the winner envelope.

The comedy was up against Golda, Maestro, Oppenheimer, and Society of the Snow for the first category, and Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, and Oppenheimer for the second.

For the third, it beat out Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, and Oppenheimer.

Dressed in a black skirt and an oversized black and white jacket, the singer belted out the Oscar-nominated song from the movie Barbie while accompanied by her brother and producer, Finneas O’Connell on piano.

Her performance earned a standing ovation from the crowd and brought Margot Robbie to tears.

Screenwriter Cord Jefferson took to the stage to accept. It beat out Barbie, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest.

Justine Triet and Arthur Harari were behind the crime thriller, which starred Sandra Hüller, Swann Arlaud, and Samuel Theis.

The award was presented by Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.

In addition, Dave Mullins’ War Is Over! took home the award for Best Animated Short Film.

She took home the award for her portrayal of Mary Lamb in The Holdovers, the head cook at Barton Academy boarding school.

She had tears running down her face as she earned a standing ovation for her crowning moment.

‘I didn’t think I was supposed to be doing this as a career. I started off as a singer, and my mother said to me, go across that street to that theater department, there’s something for you there. And I thank my mother for doing that,’ she said in her moving speech.

The comedian made a series of shocking jokes about the movies and stars who are nominated, including one that left actor Robert Downey Jr. unamused.

He roasted the Iron Man star’s manhood and past drug use, stating, ‘And Robert Downey Jr., one of the highest points of his career.

‘But Robert has been, was that too on the nose or a drug motion you made? But look at him, he’s so handsome, so talented, he’s won every award there is to win.

‘Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?’

The joke fell flat as RDJ looked somber while staring at the camera afterwards.

The Barbie starlet looked stunning in the dazzling, Versace ensemble – which officially ended her run of pink awards show looks.

Video posted to X showed activists blocking the route leading to the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, forcing the celebrities to walk from their cars to the red carpet.

Joan Collins, Sandra Oh, and Shonda Rhimes are among the first to show up at the event.

Musician Billie, actor Ramy, and Nimona star Eugene were all spotted donning a small red pin with the logo for Artists for Ceasefire on the Oscars red carpet.

‘We’re calling for immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We’re calling for peace and lasting justice for the people of Palestine,’ Ramy told Variety.

‘It’s a universal message of, “Let’s stop killing kids. Let’s not be part of more war.” No one has ever looked back at war and thought a bombing campaign was a good idea.’

The I’m Just Ken crooner looked sultry in an all-black ensemble with silver embellishments.

His sister, Mandi, joined him on the red carpet while his wife posted a pictured from his dressing room backstage.

As for the Oppenheimer frontman, he opted for a simple but classy tuxedo.

The couple shared a tender moment as the actor whispered into the Oppenheimer star’s ear.

They were also caught adoring looking into each other’s eyes as they both beamed.

She ensured all eyes would be on her!

Barbie star America looked pretty in pink on the carpet. Billie – who is nominated for Best Original Song for her Barbie smash single What Was I Made For? – opted for a black and white plaid skirt and suit jacket.

Laverne became a hot topic of conversation on social media after she made a blunder while interviewing Marlee ahead of the show.

After asking the star, who communicates via sign language, a question, the transgender activist proceeded to pass her the microphone, rather than giving it to her interpreter.

Marlee handled it like a pro, and quickly handed the mic over to her interpreter – but people on X can’t stop talking about the interaction.

As celebrities make their way to the red carpet, demonstrators are waving flags and holding signs just outside – causing the LAPD to amp up its police presence in the area.

Several groups, including Film Workers for Palestine, have organized the protest because they believe Israel will attack Rafah in Gaza while the awards show is going on.

While some looked stunning on the red carpet, others missed the mark with fashion fails and sartorial nightmares.

Erika Alexander lead the pack in a a rather baffling gown that featured a simple white strapless silhouette – which would have been incredibly elegant, had it not been for the enormous black, purple, pink, and green tutu-style skirt that was strung around her waist, covering much of the simple dress design underneath.

Oops! The YouTube star had a bit of an awkward moment when she tripped and fell to the ground while arriving at the awards show.

Jennifer Lawrence and Emily Blunt took to the stage for a final run-thru at LA’s Dolby Theatre hours ahead of the ceremony.

Despite the show still being hours away, some big names have already started showing up at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles in dazzling dresses and glamorous gowns.
