COLOGNE. The Cologne court has relatives of one Roma family Sentenced to lenient sentences for assaulting police officers. Last year, three siblings attacked two police officers. 17-year-old Sabrija H. received 40 hours of community service, her 21-year-old sister Behara H. received 30 hours of community service and 16-year-old brother Antonello H. received a warning because the Imagenewspaper reported. One of the officers attacked had to undergo emergency surgery and was on sick leave for six months.

At the beginning of August 2023, the two police officers checked a car that was not insured against liability in an asylum seeker center in Cologne-Holweide. Sabrija H. and her 20-year-old brother Mensur H. initially denied being connected to the car, but were able to identify it with a matching car key. While Mensur H. and another man tried to determine the personal details, they attacked the police officers. They use a Taser to defend themselves.

During the argument, Brother Antonello H. came over and punched a police officer in the face. To ‘liberate’ her sons, 39-year-old mother Fadila H. also intervened. Eventually the battle was stopped by police reinforcements.

Sabrija H. wanted to apologize to the officials in court, but they refused. “I don’t want to hear your excuses,” the police officer said, according to Bild newspaper. “They had ten months to do this, but they did nothing. “Furthermore, during another police operation in the fall, you let your friends celebrate you for attacking us.”

The mother Fadila H. and the son Mensur H. were not convicted. The background is that she had already been sentenced to a year in prison for theft and that he fled abroad. He is currently serving a prison sentence in France until September in another case. (sv)
